DocL

DocL is a professional certification process that allows you to demonstrate that you have a high level of expertise in your field. Once achieved you can use the post-nominals DocL after your name.

This standard is aligned to Level 8 of the UK FHEQ, which means that the knowledge you are demonstrating is at the same level as doctorate study and your application assessors will have PhDs.

You will have made a contribution to your field. There are lots of ways that this can be evidenced, for example through patents, standards, new methods or processes that have been implemented nationally or internationally, through high profile awards such as BAFTAs or Academy Awards, or through traditional means such as research.

If you are in a technical field you will likely be working at SFIA v9 Level 7, you might be a well published researcher, a strategic leader in your field, or a highly recognised producer or artist.

To gain a DocL you need to achieve 540 credits. You will complete a form with URLs to your achievements that demonstrates how you meet the credit requirements and the rules of combination. You will have worked for a minimum of 10 years in your field.

There are currently six specialisms that you can choose from and 50% of your evidence will need to be associated with that specialism:

(1) Education

(2) Engineering Technology

(3) Metaverse Technologies

(4) Strategic Leadership

(5) Technology and Innovation

(6) Virtual Production
